What are YOU reading these days?

Reading? I can hear you mutter to yourself - "Who's got TIME for reading"!?!
I know, it's a decadent past time that few of us have the luxury to enjoy these days. That being said, here's my list:

Emails - Too many of them. Most come from people who've never met me and probably don't want to. I'm getting much better at sending many to the trash without opening them but to do that I still must read the subject line, right? It's all too much.

Nutritional information on food packaging - Yep. Gotta check the fat and carb content before I put it in the shopping basket. Since I'm looking I might as well see what the competitors are offering. Just when I think I've got the numbers I want, I check serving size and there are 4 servings in this tiny box - not one! Moving on to the produce aisle...

Billboards, store fronts, and other aids to navigation - My GPS has a charming voice and is always on top of things but I really never use her close to home. I enjoy reading the limitless signage along the way that helps me figure out where I am. Most often it helps me decide that I need to buy another ___________ (insert product name), when I already have at least two in the back of the closet that I don't use or even know about. The street signs and speed limit information are also quite helpful.

Newspaper articles (online) - I don't actually get the local paper. Never have really. I ask Google to deliver topics to my inbox every day with subjects like the name of the county where I live, Florida politics, artists I like, new diet trends, UFO sightings, celebrity drug arrests, funny animal pictures. You know - the important stuff.

Catalogs that come in the mail - I get a few. My neighbor gets a lot more. I get to read those too sometimes. I rarely order anything from them but I have a hard time throwing them away, just in cast I change my mind and decide I really NEED that coffee mug in the shape of a toilet.

Random pages from David Feldman's "Life's Imponderables" - Full of interesting things like Why Do Clocks Run Clockwise? When Do Fish Sleep? Why Do Dogs Have Wet Noses?

Garment care instructions - Not because I want to but you know what happens if you don't...

My to-do list - My least favorite reading. When I do get around to writing one it becomes the thing that haunts me for days and even weeks. I can never make a to-do list that is do-able in a day.

The words that scroll across the bottom of the screen when CNN is on and the volume in turned down - It never has anything to do with the faces and pictures in the main area but sometimes the combinations are quite funny.

A few good books - Yep. The real thing. Not audio, PDF, or Kindle. Solid, hard back, paper books. Some good ones I'm working on or have just finished: "Sick Puppy" Carl Hiaasen, "The Thirteen American Arguments" Howard Fineman, and "The Forest" Edward Rutherford.

And I almost forgot - That Amazon.com screen that say "Readers who bought this also enjoyed This..."

Hi Robin - I have to say, this post made me laugh!! And, unfortunately, it is all sooooo true. I especially loved the calorie and carb info. Isn't that the way it always is???

I know the feeling... who's got time? Seems like what I'm reading most are blog posts... and a lot of things I write and edit at work. If it weren't for my book club, I'd never get through a book anymore. Just finished The House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper. Great Book!!

I hear ya! So much reading, but so little time for the reading that is actually enjoyable. I'll be adding those book titles you mentioned to my own To Be Read pile. Here's to more time for reading A Few Good Books!
